It was not a difficult decision to come to a top-ranking university that challenged me academically while also being able to enjoy everything that Vancouver has to offer.

Why did you choose UBC?
UBC has a global reputation of being one of the best universities. It also has the added benefit of being situated in one of the most beautiful cities in the world (Vancouver) and a campus that is second to none. It was not a difficult decision to come to a top-ranking university that challenged me academically while also being able to enjoy everything that Vancouver has to offer.

What had the biggest impact on your decision?
To be honest, the constant broadcast of the stunning Vancouver skyline and snow-capped mountains during the 2010 Winter Olympics was the final sales pitch.

What are the students like at your school?
The first word that comes to mind is international. The students at UBC represent every corner of the globe and offer the campus their unique perspectives and insights. Each of my friends is from a different country and I honestly learn something new about their cultures every day.

Which activities or organizations do you participate in?
I am very active in Model United Nations (MUN) on campus. MUN is a great way for international-minded students to debate pressing issues facing our world today with students from across the world. UBC hosts their own MUN conference each year and it is a great way to get involved and meet new people on campus.

Have you had any internships or co-ops?
This past semester I interned at a think-tank in Washington, DC. I interned as a research assistant and worked on topics relating to the Middle East and the Arab Spring. The internship granted me a better idea of what I want to do after university and really honed in my research skills.

What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to get my master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies and work at a think-tank as a researcher. I am also considering a career in the Foreign Service at the U.S. State Department.

Why should other students choose UBC?
I would encourage students to select UBC because you will attend a top school, in a great city without breaking the bank. UBC offers a world-class education at an affordable price.
