Arnot-Ogden Medical Center School of Nursing

Arnot-Ogden Medical Center is a voluntary, nonprofit hospital located in Elmira, New York. The School of Nursing was established by action of the Board of Managers in July 1889. At that time it was called Training School for Nurses and was one of the earliest in the country. The School of Nursing is a 27-month educational program of theory and related clinical experiences. The main objectives of the program are to educate the student to function as a beginning practitioner of nursing in a health care facility that may include clients in each developmental stage of life, and to meet the professional standards of the National League for Nursing and the New York State Education Department. During the first two years of the program, foundation courses in the physical, biological, and social sciences as well as a course in English are taught by members of the Elmira College faculty on the college campus.
