Olivet Nazarene University alum finds fame unexpectedly

While many Americans pursue education from Christian universities, some may wonder what types of careers they may qualify for upon earning these degrees. Jeremy Selvidge, a 1999 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, is a lead pastor at Mount Pleasant First Church of the Nazarene.
Selvidge found that his favorite aspect of ministry is performing weddings for people who do not ordinarily attend his church, according to the university. After he carried out one such wedding at a local TJ MAXX store, the video of the ceremony made it to a novelty wedding locales segment on the Today Show.

The pastor was contacted by an engaged couple after his name was given to them from a long list of other pastors who occasionally write for the religion section of the local newspaper. The bride-to-be told him that she had warm memories of spending time in TJ MAXX with her late mother and family.

Selvidge said he was struck with the reality that what she found at TJ MAXX were the very things he hopes people would find in a church family. He added that the church today must find ways to get outside of its walls in order to share life and Christ with the people we come in contact with today.
