
Overview
Lincoln University is a historically black, public, comprehensive institution, founded in 1866 by the soldiers of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries at the close of the Civil War. Today the university enrolls more than 3,200 students, including individuals from 36 states and more than 35 countries.
Set upon nearly 160 acres in Jefferson City, the capital of Missouri, LU offers services to a diverse body of traditional and non-traditional students with a broad range of academic preparation and skills. LU offers seven undergraduate degrees in more than 50 areas of study and graduate programs in selected disciplines that prepare our students for citizenship and leadership in the global community. Lincoln alumni can be found in all corners of the globe, serving our communities, regions, and nations of the world.
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as by 12 other independent accreditation bodies, Lincoln University is organized into four colleges: the College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Behavioral and Technological Sciences, and the College of Professional Studies.
Student Life
- Lincoln students can choose to live in the university’s nine residence halls, including two honors halls and the newly opened Sherman D. Scruggs Hall, which offers apartment-style living for students.
- The campus features an active student union, computer laboratories, a health services clinic, and a state-of-the-art campus library.
- Students are actively involved in academic bowls, dance, music, on-campus radio and television studios, a student newspaper, Student Government Association, and more than 50 organizations (including fraternities, sororities, and social or service organizations).
Blue Tigers Athletics
The Lincoln Blue Tigers are members of the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The university fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, cross-country, golf, and track and field; women’s softball and tennis; and men’s baseball and football. The women’s track and field team has won nine NCAA Division II National Championships in both indoor and outdoor competition since 2003, and the men’s golf program has captured four PGA Minority Collegiate Championships since 1999.
