> 360° Tours

With 360° tours, you can take advantage of QTVR technology to show panoramic views of your campus and the surrounding area as if the viewer were actually there. You must supply the 360° tours for implementation onto your CD.

Here are some pointers for planning a shoot:

  1. Determine your list of panoramic views (fountains, parks, quads, libraries, academic departments, housing, food services, surrounding towns).
  2. Schedule for someone to escort the photographer.
  3. Plan the most time-efficient route.
  4. Make sure to have access to all shoot sites (buildings, stadium, etc.).
  5. Plan to shoot exterior shots from 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. for the best natural lighting.
  6. Choose two or three backup shot locations just in case.
  7. Arrange for students to serve as models if desired.
  8. Allow an average of 20 minutes per shot, not including travel and set up time.

> Intro Video

The introductory video can appear on the splash intro or the menu screen of your dynamic viewbook. What makes this different from the internal presentation videos is that it can be up to five minutes long. This is a great place to show a large portion of your admissions video or other recruiting movie. Just supply us with the video footage digitally or on tape. See the audio/video section for more details on submitting video.

> Virtual Tour Guides

A virtual tour guide is a person who appears on any presentation screen of your choosing to give the user some helpful information or tips. Virtual tour guides can be professional actors or real people from your school. Virtual tour guides typically serve to add a more personal, human touch to your presentation.

Preparing and Scheduling the Shoot

  1. The shoot must be scheduled with Hobsons at least two weeks in advance. Your client development account manager will work with you to schedule a date that will work for all of the parties involved. We typically schedule the shoots anytime Monday–Friday. No weekend or holiday shoots, please.
  2. Scripts and screen plans must be finalized at least one week prior to the shoot. This provides time for the director and producer to plan the virtual tour guides' motions and layout and provides time for the talent to become familiar with the script. The final screens don't need to be 100 percent complete, but a general concept must be firm.
  3. Any special requests pertaining to entrances and exits, virtual tour guide use, props, or anything deemed "out of the ordinary" must be cleared through Hobsons at least two weeks before the scheduled shoot.

Talent

  1. The talent selected for the virtual tour guide shoot acts as a school representative to everyone who views your digital viewbook. Often your campus tour guides are a great choice. You may want to consider selecting a diverse group of students to represent your school. Hobsons recommends the following criteria in selecting virtual tour guides:
  2. The ability to speak clearly and to project their voice
  3. The ability to be comfortable on camera
  4. A neat and well-groomed appearance
  5. If you do not have talent available for the shoot, Hobsons can recommend local talent. In order to audition and schedule talent, Hobsons must be notified at least three weeks prior to the scheduled shoot.
  6. The number of virtual tour guide appearances does not necessarily reflect the amount of talent required. Talent may do more than one virtual tour guide appearance and more than one person can appear in a scene (we recommend three at most on-screen at any time).
  7. Determine the formality of the virtual tour guides' manner and attire prior to the shoot. The choice of casual vs. formal should be indicated in the script(s) along with any other direction and production requirements.
  8. Talent cannot wear any green-tinted clothing or clothing with a green pattern, as it will be screened out in the green-screen post-production process. Talent should bring at least two complete outfits in different colors in case one outfit is incompatible with the green-screen shooting process.
  9. Any makeup or hair styling is the responsibility of the talent.
  10. Most importantly, have fun! A relaxed atmosphere on the set is often the most productive and yields the best results.

The Average Shooting Day

  1. If traveling from the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport, allow one hour of travel time to get to the Hobsons studio. If traveling from the Dayton Airport, allow one-and-one-half hours of travel time.
  2. Talent should arrive at least one-half hour before the scheduled shooting. This will allow for wardrobe decisions, makeup, and last-minute minor script changes.
  3. It is typically possible to shoot a maximum of five virtual tour guides per day. However, factors such as a tour guide’s experience and the complexity of the performance impact that number. We encourage clients to discuss these factors with Hobsons prior to the scheduled shoot to accurately determine the time required to successfully complete a virtual tour guide shoot.
  4. Each virtual tour guide appearance will be allotted an hour for rehearsal and shooting. More or less time will be spent depending on talent level and performance difficulty.
  5. The following is an example of the time schedule for the average shooting day:

    9:00 a.m.—talent arrives for preparation.
    10:00 a.m.—virtual tour guide #1
    11:00 a.m.—virtual tour guide #2
    12:00 p.m.—virtual tour guide #3
    1:00 p.m.—lunch
    2:00 p.m.—virtual tour guide #4
    3:00 p.m.—virtual tour guide #5
    4:00 p.m.—shoot concludes/wrap-up
