CHALLENGES FACING UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS
- Israel Cortez, an Adolescent Outreach Specialist for the Georgia Department of Education works to develop and provide academic and career counseling opportunities to eligible migrant youth since finding a college or university can prove to be difficult for undocumented students. Prior to the new law that Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed last April, several schools accepted undocumented students or gave presidential waivers. Not only is it difficult for undocumented students to find a school that will accept them due to their citizenship, but many schools in the state of Georgia who accept undocumented students are now charging them out-of-state-tuition.
