York University thrives on international connections. York offers international students a truly multicultural, interdisciplinary, Canadian experience. Connections to researchers, universities, and opportunities around the world provide York students with an international perspective that enhances an exceptional Canadian education.

York encourages students to find opportunities in the global community, through work, study, or exchanges. Consider the following opportunities:

Study abroad as part of an academic York Exchange Program. York has cooperative agreements with more than 50 international universities, allowing students to go on exchange and earn credits toward their York degree.

Work abroad as part of the York International Internship Program (YIIP). The program enables undergraduate and graduate students to apply their academic knowledge to an international work environment and enhance their job-related skills in an international and intercultural setting. Each placement comes with a $3,000 York International Internship Award.

Take part in international programs at York such as the Emerging Global Leaders Retreat (EGLR) or our award-winning leadership retreat, which gives students the chance to gain skills and work toward goals that build global awareness and leadership capabilities.

Take courses with international concerns or studying particular areas of the globe through some of York's international degree programs such as European Studies, East Asian Studies, Caribbean & Latin American Studies, and International Studies.

York International, our central office for international student services, offers orientation, a welcome program, a full-time student advisor, and a social club. York supports their students academically, socially, and financially. There are more than $1.5 million in annual scholarships available for international students at York. York offers 62 international awards with values ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. York also offers a $15,000 per year Global Leader Award, awarded to A students with a proven track record of community service. York also offers International Merit Entrance Scholarships valued at $10,000 each, awarded to entering first-year students with the highest academic average.
